It was the old 17th-century winery and surrounding vineyards that found Stephanie and Eduard back in 2007, and the rest is history!įortunately, there had been a year-long gap between owners, so the soils had the chance to be washed clean of the chemicals previously used. “It was love at first sight I could have asked her to marry me immediately,” says Eduard “we knew that we wanted to do something together, but we didn’t have a master plan becoming wine growers was fate”. Fermentation takes place in used 10-liter barrels. Vinification Method: Grapes are hand harvested and destemmed. The Maskerade Weiss vineyard is on relatively flat land, with gentle slopes facing eastward. The Maskerade wines are made from some newer vineyards Stefanie and Eduard acquired, that they are in the process of converting to biodynamics. Never to be experienced the same way again. A snapshot in time, along a journey of discovery. So, our Maskerade wines capture a wonderful ephemeral moment. Only after they have revealed themselves fully, will they become part of the Family. We are not quite sure who the person behind the mask is yet. And so, their true self is still hidden to us. Holding a tiny bit of their beautiful personality and character back. From the start, we instilled our principles and approach to viticulture. Our Maskerade are field blends of vineyards we recently took over. Complex and original, there is no suprise in finding some of their cuvées in the best restaurants of Europe (London or Paris for instance) to pair with the Haute Cuisine. With only 15 to 18,000 bottles a year, Gut Oggau's wines are one of the most sought after wines of Austria. Stephanie and Eduard focus on quality as a permanent quest, their aim is to achieve a natural vine balance and process the grapes as gently as possible, allowing them to make the best use of their vineyard's strength. Each cuvée is named after a fictional character created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and is integrated in a family tree (grandparent, parents and children). Also, each wine is vinified with the grapes coming from a single plot, allowing to get a wide range of authentic and different personalities of wines. The vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic principles (Demeter certified) with traditional winemaking methods in the cellar. The estate is today run by Eduard Tscheppe – son of a winemaker – and his wife Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselböck – daughter of a 2 Michelin stars Austrian restaurant owner – who took over the estate several years ago. Gut Oggau is a 13 hectares Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake Neusiedl.
